Oakville Little League to Host 2010 Provincial Championship

OAKVILLE, Ont., (January 7^th, 2010) – Oakville Little League is pleased to announce that they will be hosting the 2010 Provincial Senior League Baseball Championships for players age 15 and 16.

 “We are honoured that Little League Ontario has asked Oakville Little League to host this Provincial Championship,” said John Sweeney, President of Oakville Little League. “This tournament provides us with an opportunity to showcase the fine young athletes of Oakville and from across the Province, as well as, providing the opportunity to showcase the beautiful Town of Oakville and Oakville Little League.” Building on the success of running the 2008 Canadian Senior League Championship and the 2009 Ontario Minor A Provincial Championship, Oakville Little League is well positioned to welcome back another significant Championship to the Town of Oakville.

 “I am excited about the opportunity to coach the team but also to provide our Whitecaps with an opportunity to compete in the provincials for the right to represent Ontario at the Canadian Senior League Championships this summer” said Nick Rigato, head coach of the host Oakville Whitecaps.

 The Provincial Senior League Championship will be held in late July 2010. Specific dates, game times and location will be posted on our website over the next few months.

 “Our objective is to make this tournament one of the best hosted tournaments in Ontario in 2010” added Sweeney, “For many of these young people, competing in a tournament of this magnitude will be the experience of a lifetime.  Win or lose, we want the players to always think about the time they spent in Oakville in the summer of 2010, the fond experience and fun they had, the friendships they made, and the hospitality of Oakville.”

 “This event is a significant undertaking for our League and can only be successfully with the generous support of our volunteers and the financial support of the Oakville business community” said John Mooney, Vice President of Baseball Operations for Oakville Little League. “We are currently in the planning stages and are actively looking for sponsorship to help support this event.”
